The platform

One environment.
Your data and workflows.

AToM⁴ brings records, relationships, searches and task views into one web environment. Its ontology defines your domain, providing a shared model for your team's work and dedicated websites.

01

Model your domain

Define any relationship your domain needs, with your own types, participant roles and properties.

02

Work in context

Move from a record to related information and see how the pieces belong together.

03

Find what matters

Use searches, filters and structured queries to build useful views of your data.

04

Build dedicated websites

Create websites and portals for different audiences from the connected information your team manages in AToM.

Built-in taxonomies and hierarchies

Classify information from several perspectives and preserve the structure of complex publications.

Group Tree

Built-in multidimensional taxonomies

Classify the same record from different perspectives, with hierarchical categories and single or multiple choices within each branch.

Projects built on AToM

Different domains.
A shared foundation.

From specialist workspaces to public websites, projects across the AToM platform family put connected information to work.

Legal information · Public website

Zákony pro lidi

Connected legal information, made for people.

Built on AToM, the Czech Republic's most visited legal portal connects legislation and case law for professionals and the wider public.

  • Preserve structure. Legal texts are assembled from smaller parts in the database into readable documents.
  • Reveal context. Connect legislation and international treaties with related court decisions.
  • Open access. Read current legislation free of charge, with advanced tools available through Zákony pro lidi Plus.

A dedicated public website turns a structured, connected information model into a service people use in everyday life.

The working environment

Built for the pace
of real work.

Find a record, follow its relationships and work at the right level. CATOOL shows how AToM⁴ brings specialist cataloguing tasks into one connected workspace.

Rooted in Topic Maps

Meaning is part
of the model.

AToM stands for AION Topic Maps. Information becomes more useful when you can see what it is about, how subjects relate, and where to find the resources that describe them.

AToM⁴ builds on the principles of Topic Maps: subjects, associations and information resources. Your ontology defines the relationship types, participant roles and properties that give these connections meaning.

A closer look at the standard

The ISO/IEC 13250 family defines Topic Maps. Its data model describes topics, associations and occurrences, and how topic maps are interpreted and merged. AToM has developed a practical web database model from these roots.

01

Subjects

The people, publications, concepts or other things your information is about.

02

Relationships

Connections you define, with explicit participant roles and properties on the relationships themselves.

03

Information resources

The descriptions and sources that tell you more about a subject.

The platform’s evolution

Three generations.
One connected idea.

From a web database with Topic Maps roots to today’s connected workspaces, AToM builds on years of practical use.

Main periods of development and use

  1. 2010–2015

    AToM2

    2D · Information on a plane

Establishing a universal web database, rooted in Topic Maps, for modelling subjects, properties and relationships.

  2. 2016–2023

    AToM3

    3D · Relationships with depth

Richer properties on associations give relationships their own detail, as the shared environment develops across legal information, indexing and knowledge projects.

  3. 2024–today

    AToM4

    4D · Information in motion

Building on AToM³ with a modern web interface and specialist workspaces, including CATOOL for multilingual publication metadata.

If the superscripts were dimensions, AToM² would lay information out, AToM³ would give relationships depth, and AToM⁴ would set the whole picture in motion. No special glasses required.
